The Assessorato Attività produttive (Department of Productive Activities) – Direzione Energia (Energy Direction) – Servizio per l’attuazione del piano energetico (Service for the implementation of the energy plan) is responsible for Regional Energy Planning in the Aosta Valley (N.W. Italy).

The main activities of the Service are:
to programme, promote, manage and monitor activities aimed at the development of tools for energy planning and their implementation; to programme, promote, manage and monitor the implementation of demonstrative energy production systems as well as energy audits on buildings; to establish objectives and to co-ordinate the activities of the “Centro di osservazione avanzato sulle energie di flusso e sull´energia di rete” (Centre for advanced observation of energy fluxes and grid energy) to co-ordinate the organisation of training and education initiatives regarding the rational use of energy, energy saving and the development of renewable energy sources; to manage relationships with European, national and regional bodies, as well as category associations; to moderate the relative technical meetings in the fields of competence; to undertake an intermediary role with the in house company and affiliated institutions in the fields of competence.

We are now developing a new Regional Energy Plan to meet with the sustainability targets laid down for 2020. In particular, we are currently defining the regulations for energy certification in buildings in a regional context.

We are also members of the Alps-Mediterranean Euroregion (transnational co-operation structure), created in 2007 between three Italian regions (Piedmont, Liguria and the Aosta Valley) and two French regions (Rhône-Alpes and Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur).

The Autonomous Region of Aosta Valley will study the applicability of VPS concept to his territory, in particular concerning scattered villages. The aim is to analise the technical and economical attractiveness of VPS where the national grid is available and where it’s not yet. The project will be focussed on monitoring electrical consumptions and to forecast, on the other side, the potential of production with RES. With Virtual Power System technology developed in AlpEnergy the responsibles of the region want to create and test a simple and easily practicable model to manage power supply in scattered habitat scenarios with and without connection to the national grid. The tests shall unveil potentials for a 100 % power supply from renewable energies in such small villages. By various means of public relations Aosta will share their experience with other scattered habitats in Italy and the Alpine Space.
